Ingredients
  

For the filling

  • 2 cups finely chopped cabbage Fresh green cabbage works best.
  • 1 medium carrot, grated Adds sweetness and color.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced For aromatic flavor.
  • 2 chopped green onions Enhances flavor and texture.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce For umami flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil Adds a nutty aroma.

For assembly

  • 1 package dumpling wrappers Use round wrappers for best results.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil To pan-fry the dumplings.

Preparation

  • In a pan, heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  • Incorporate chopped cabbage, grated carrot, and chopped green onions. Sauté for 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
  • Stir in soy sauce and sesame oil, then remove the pan from heat.

Assembly

  • Lay out a dumpling wrapper on a flat surface. Place a spoonful of the filling in the center.
  • Wet the edges with a little water and fold to seal, pinching the edges tightly to avoid leaks.

Cooking

  • In a clean skillet, heat another tablespoon of oil over medium heat.
  • Carefully add the dumplings in batches, frying until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes on one side.
  • Flip the dumplings and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes or until both sides are crispy.
  • Serve hot with soy dipping sauce.

Notes

Crispy cabbage dumplings can be easily customized. Use mushrooms and tofu for a vegetarian option, add chili flakes for spice, or opt for rice paper wrappers to make them gluten-free. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze uncooked dumplings for longer storage.
