A classic American sandwich made with thinly sliced beef, melted cheese, and sautéed onions in a soft hoagie roll.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 450 g thinly sliced beef (ribeye or top round)
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (about 80 g)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced (150 g)
  • 1 medium bell pepper, sliced (120 g)
  • 2 hoagie rolls
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (15 mL)
  • 1 tsp salt (5 g)
  • 1/2 tsp pepper (2 g)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat until it shimmers.
  2. Add sliced onions and bell peppers; sauté until caramelized, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Push the veggies to one side and add the thinly sliced beef, cooking until browned, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Melt provolone cheese over the beef and allow to sit for 1 minute.
  6. Scoop the mixture onto toasted hoagie rolls and serve warm.

Notes

For a leaner sandwich, choose top round instead of ribeye. Ensure to slice the beef thinly for the best texture.
