A classic, delicious strawberry shortcake topped with luscious whipped cream, perfect for summer.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for strawberries)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp sugar (for whipped cream)
  • Zest of 1 lemon

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in cold butter until pea-sized.
  2. Slice fresh strawberries and mix them with sugar. Let them sit for 30 minutes.
  3. Whip heavy cream, sugar, and lemon zest until soft peaks form.
  4. Layer the shortcakes, macerated strawberries, and whipped cream.

Notes

Avoid overmixing the butter and flour for a tender shortcake. Make sure to macerate strawberries for optimal sweetness.
