Enjoy a velvety cup of authentic Italian hot chocolate, known as ‘cioccolata calda,’ made with high-quality dark chocolate for an indulgent experience.

Ingredients

  • 500 ml whole milk
  • 30 g sugar
  • 25 g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 100 g finely chopped dark chocolate
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pour 500 ml of whole milk into a medium saucepan and bring it to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. Sift 30 g of sugar and 25 g of unsweetened cocoa powder into a small bowl and whisk them together.
  3. Gradually add the cocoa mixture and 100 g of finely chopped dark chocolate to the simmering milk, whisking continuously until the chocolate melts and the mixture thickens.
  4. Pour the hot chocolate into small cups and top with a dollop of whipped cream if desired.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper or a pinch of cinnamon. Use plant-based alternatives for a dairy-free version.
