  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, spices, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat softened butter and brown sugar until creamy.
  4. Add molasses, egg, and vanilla; mix well.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Chill the dough for about 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  7. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, then roll in powdered sugar to coat.
  8. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until cookies are puffy and start to crinkle.
  10. Let cool on baking sheet for a couple of minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For gluten-free options, use a gluten-free flour blend. Substitute coconut oil for butter to make it dairy-free.
