Learn how to make classic French salted butter cookies, known as Sablés de Buerre, with a rich buttery flavor and crumbly texture.

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Flaky sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
  4. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until just combined.
  5. Shape the dough into small balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Flatten each ball slightly and sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt on top.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week. They can be frozen for up to three months.
