A fast, budget-friendly twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak using lean ground beef for quick preparation and great flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced (approx. 110 g)
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced (approx. 120 g)
  • 1 lb lean ground beef (454 g)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (15 ml)
  • 1 tbsp A1 Steak Sauce (15 ml)
  • 1/4 cup beef broth (60 ml)
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 4 tbsp butter, softened (56 g)
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder (8 g)
  • 1 package provolone cheese, sliced (approx. 170 g)
  • Cheez Whiz, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high and add 1 tbsp olive oil, then add diced bell peppers and onion. Sauté 2 to 3 minutes until vegetables soften.
  2. Add 1 lb lean ground beef and break into pieces. Cook until no longer pink, drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tbsp A1, and 1/4 cup beef broth. Simmer about 5 minutes until slightly reduced.
  4. Lay buns open, slather with softened butter and sprinkle garlic powder, add provolone to both sides, broil on low until cheese melts.
  5. Fill buns with the cheesy beef mix and add Cheez Whiz as desired.

Notes

Use lean ground beef for a less greasy sandwich. Don’t skip the sauce reduction for optimal flavor.
