Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups water or beef broth
  • 9 lasagna noodles, broken
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large deep skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant, about 4 minutes.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Pour in water or beef broth and mix well, bringing the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  4. Break lasagna noodles into pieces and scatter them evenly over the sauce. Spoon dollops of ricotta over the noodles, then sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top without stirring.
  5. Cover the pan tightly, reduce heat to low, and let cook for 25-30 minutes, checking occasionally to ensure noodles are tender and sauce isn’t drying out.
  6. Once done, sprinkle with chopped fresh basil if desired, and let sit covered for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Avoid overcrowding the pan and ensure enough liquid is added during cooking.
