A timeless classic side dish featuring thinly sliced potatoes baked in rich cream and cheese, perfect for hearty meals and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups of heavy cream
  • 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.
  3. In a bowl, combine the heavy cream, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  5. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, sprinkle with half of the cheese, then repeat with remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  8. Let it cool slightly, garnish with parsley, and serve.

Notes

Allow the dish to rest for a few minutes before serving to let the layers set.
