A comforting, old-fashioned casserole featuring seasoned ground beef patties simmered in a rich onion gravy and baked until tender.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 6-8 oval-shaped patties and let rest.
  3. Brown the patties in an oven-safe skillet for 3-4 minutes per side until golden, then remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté sliced onions in butter, add flour and stir for 2 minutes, then whisk in broth and cream until the gravy thickens.
  5. Nestle the patties into the gravy, cover tightly, and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  6. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Browning the patties adds flavor; do not skip this step. Adjust cooking time for larger patties.
